The Box Hill Horticultural Society was one of the largest horticultural societies in Victoria in its heyday, holding up to four garden shows every year in the Box Hill Town Hall. For the 2018 Heritage Week, we plan to hold our own old style garden show in the lower Town Hall on Saturday 15 September, and invite people to come along and show their homegrown flowers, fruit and vegetables. Each entrant will receive a commemorative certificate and category placegetters will receive a small prize. An application form can be downloaded here: Flower Show schedule It would be appreciated if people could register in advance by the 12th September, as it will help with allocating areas within the town hall for specific categories to be shown.
We will also have an historic display, featuring the history of the horticultural society and some of its members. A feature will be the Herald Garden Week shield, won by Box Hill Council, and held in storage for many years. Council’s Parkswide team are decorating the hall for us, and Art Curator Jacquie Nichols-Reeves has selected a number of botanical art works for display. Why not join us!!
The programme, including a list of the speakers, can be downloaded here: Garden Show Programme
